Festival budaya tahunan terbesar di Pantai Barat Utara AS tersebut mengangkat tema Pensi (Pentas Seni) Nusantara dan menyuguhkan berbagai pertunjukan khas daerah di Indonesia, mulai dari Sabang, Aceh hingga Marauke, Papua. Yang tak kalah unik, para penyelenggara dan penampil acara memakai dresscode anak SMA ditambah setting cerita dengan bangku dan meja bak di dalam kelas, membawa nostalgia nuansa budaya sekolah di Indonesia.
“Selamat kepada mahasiswa dan diaspora Indonesia lainnya karena telah berhasil suguhkan kegiatan seni budaya Indonesia terbesar di Pantai Barat bagian Utara AS.” Demikian disampaikan Konjen RI di San Francisco, Prasetyo Hadi, dalam sambutan pembukaan pada acara yang diselenggarakan Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia (Permias) di Oregon State University di Corvalis, Oregon pada 11 Februari 2022.
Sesuai namanya “Indonesian Night: Pentas Seni Nusantara“, kegiatan budaya malam hari yang telah berlangsung sejak belasan tahun ke belakang tersebut bertujuan untuk semakin mempromosikan pluralitas budaya Indonesia khususnya di Oregon dan wilayah Pantai Barat bagian Utara AS.
“KJRI San Francisco terus mendorong berbagai kreativitas seni Indonesia untuk semakin menguatkan profil positif Indonesia mengenai keragaman budayanya kepada masyarakat lokal AS dan asing lainnya”, kata Prasetyo. Peran masyarakat dan diaspora Indonesia di luar negeri, termasuk para Indonesianis dan friends of Indonesia, juga sangat penting bagi strategi diplomasi Indonesia.
Ratusan mahasiswa dan masyarakat lokal AS juga diaspora Indonesia hadir pada acara tersebut. Mereka terlihat menikmati kemeriahan pertunjukan berbagai musik dan tarian tradisional, seperti gamelan Bali, gamelan Jawa, berbagai tarian Sumatera, Tari Dadas asal Kalimantan, serta musik pop pupuler yang ditampilkan oleh mahasiswa asal Sumatera dan Papua. Menariknya lagi, kepiawaian pertunjukan gamelan justru dimainkan oleh para bule lokal AS. Bahkan sejumlah pengunjung warga lokal terlihat mengekspresikan keseruannya dengan ikut belajar dan langsung bermain angklung yang dipandu dengan baik oleh grup Angklung Oregon yang membawakan lagu Rayuan Pulau Kelapa.
Ratusan peserta hadir dari berbagai kalangan di antaranya mahasiswa AS dan pelalajar/mahasiswa asing lainnya, hingga masyarakat diaspora dan mahasiswa Indonesia lintas kampus di wilayah negara bagian Oregon.
“Saya senang sekali dapat menghadiri acara malam budaya Indonesia ini. Saya baru petama kali memainkan angklung, alat musik tradisional yang sangat luar biasa, permainan yang sangat menakjubkan. Selain itu, beragam kuliner Indonesia yang dihidangkan lezat sekali khususnya ayam geprek!” ujar David Mindermann, masyarakat AS di kota Corvallis asal Texas.
